Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Gilbert, AZ,

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

CTS is a problem of the median nerve which runs from the forearm into the hand. When there is excessive pressure in the wrist, it causes swelling of the median nerve. This small area called the carpal tunnel is a narrow tunnel at the wrist made up of bones, soft tissues, nerves, tendons, ligaments and blood vessels. When the median nerve which runs through this tunnel gets compressed it causes pain, weakness, numbness or tingling in the hand and wrist which radiates into the forearm. The carpal tunnel is the most common area that gets compressed in both the hands and feet.

CTS should be diagnosed and treated early. During your consultation, you will receive a standard physical examination of the hands, arms, shoulders and neck to help determine if your symptoms are related to daily activities or to an underlying disorder. Our highly skilled chiropractor will also utilize other orthopedic tests to try to produce the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. Laboratory tests and x-rays can reveal diabetes, arthritis, fractures, and other common causes of wrist and hand pain.

headaches migraines Gilbert, AZ,

Headaches/ Migraines

Headaches can disrupt your work, family time, or even your ability to enjoy a quiet moment. At our Gilbert, AZ chiropractic office, we’ve helped 9 out of 10 patients find relief from headaches using a unique combination of chiropractic care, acupuncture, and physical therapy. Three common types of headaches that Dr. Brown treats are: tension, migraine, and sinus. Ready to feel better?

Tension Headaches: Relief from Stress & Neck Tension

Tension headaches, sometimes called stress headaches, are very common, affecting up to 78% of people.1 These headaches often feel like a tight band around your head and can be triggered by stress, poor posture, or tension in your neck and shoulders.

What Causes Tension Headaches?

  • Tight Muscles: Stress or poor posture can cause knots (called trigger points) in the muscles of your neck, shoulders, or upper back.
  • Stiff Joints: Stiff joints in your neck can refer pain to your head, even if your neck doesn’t hurt. These are often called cervicogenic headaches (pain coming from the neck).
  • Everyday Triggers: Long hours at a desk, screen time, or emotional stress can contribute.

How We Help

Dr. Brown uses neck adjustments, acupuncture, and massage therapy to relieve tension headaches. Our approach addresses the root cause—neck tension and joint dysfunction—rather than just masking symptoms.

How Many Treatments?

Most patients feel significant relief in 1-6 visits, often after just one session. We do not recommend extensive treatment plans like many chiropractic offices. X-rays are not taken routinely on every patient. Dr. Brown only orders x-rays if they are medically necessary.

Migraine Relief: Manage Pain Safely and Effectively

Migraines are more than just severe headaches—they can cause throbbing pain, nausea, and sensitivity to light or sound. If you suspect you have migraines, a neurologist should confirm the diagnosis. While migraines may not be resolved with conservative care, our treatments can reduce their frequency and intensity.

Why Migraines Are Different

  • Complex Causes: Migraines involve neurological and vascular factors, making them more difficult to treat.
  • Safety First: Research links rare cases of neck artery issues to migraines.2 For your safety, Dr. Brown avoids HVLA (high-velocity low-amplitude) neck adjustments for migraine patients.3
  • Holistic Relief: Acupuncture and physical therapy (like massage therapy, muscle stimulation and cold packs) help calm migraine symptoms without risky movements.

Our Approach

Dr. Brown customizes treatments to your needs, using acupuncture and other therapies to reduce migraine pain and help you feel more in control. Many patients report fewer migraines and a better quality of life after care.

How do I know if I have a tension headache or a migraine?
Tension headaches typically feel like a tight band around your head, while migraines often involve throbbing pain, nausea, or sensitivity to light and sound. We’ll assess your symptoms during your consultation to identify the cause. We will refer you to a neurologist for a definitive diagnosis if Dr. Brown suspects you have migraines.

Sinus Headaches: Clear the Pressure, Feel the Relief

Sinus headaches cause pain or pressure around your eyes, forehead, or cheeks, often due to sinus congestion. Whether triggered by allergies, infections, or seasonal changes, these headaches can be debilitating.

What Causes Sinus Headaches?

  • Sinus Congestion: Blocked sinuses create pressure that radiates to your head.
  • Neck Involvement: Tight neck muscles or fixated joints can worsen sinus headache pain.
  • Common Symptoms: Facial tenderness, stuffiness, or pain that worsens when bending forward.

How We Help

Dr. Brown combines chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, and therapies like therapeutic massage to relieve sinus pressure and pain. Most patients find relief in 1-6 treatments, often after a single session.

Neck Pain in Gilbert AZ

It is not possible to resolve neck pain without finding the source of the pain in the first place. The chiropractic team at Brown Chiropractic & Acupuncture, PC utilizes a diverse set of methods to hone in on the cause of your discomfort. This approach allows us to better treat the patients who visit our office.

The spinal region of the body houses every nerve responsible for sensation within. Muscle tissue that supports the spine can seize and stiffen if the spine is out of alignment. This response by the muscle tissue is thought to be a bodily response meant to safeguard the spine. If individuals maintain poor posture it can magnify this reaction by the muscles and result in chronic pain and even long-term damage.

Letting neck pain and misalignments of the spine linger is a mistake. Most individuals push through the pain with the hope that it will eventually subside on its own. A majority of the time the pain will subside. However, the underlying issue will remain and lead to recurring pain. By ignoring pain and a misaligned spine, an individual opens themselves up to more dangerous injuries that require more invasive procedures to correct.

Common vs. Normal

If you are dealing with neck pain, be wary of the common vs. normal fallacy. This fallacy is that some individuals believe that since neck pain is prevalent that it is normal. While neck pain is common, it should not be taken lightly. This kind of login is harmful and leads to dealing with neck pain far longer than necessary and complications down the road. It is best to not kick down the road issues that can be fixed now.

When you arrive at our clinic we will start by surveying your health background. Our staff will seek to assess the source of your symptoms in order to better assist you. Our goal is to help you increase your quality of life to the fullest extent.

Scoliosis Gilbert, AZ,

Scoliosis

When detected early, scoliosis can be managed and treated to prevent the problem from getting worse. With scoliosis, the spine has abnormal curvatures to the side or even twists. Most cases of scoliosis appear for unknown reasons as scoliosis tends to develop before puberty in adolescence, in children who previously had no spine issues.
Many cases of scoliosis do not require surgery or extensive treatment, but if the curvature becomes more severe, medical intervention may be needed. Scoliosis appears equally in boys and girls, but typically girls are more likely to develop significant curvature that warrants treatment.

sports injury Gilbert, AZ,

Sports Injury

Dr. Brown’s treatment protocol for sports injuries in Gilbert AZ combines Chiropractic, Acupuncture, and Physical Medicine techniques in a way that is completely unique. Very few Doctors of Chiropractic are certified to perform Acupuncture. And while many Doctors of Chiropractic are certified to perform Physical Medicine, they rarely utilize the procedures to its full extent.

Physical Medicine and Acupuncture are extremely powerful treatments to combine with Chiropractic care for sports injuries, and Dr. Brown does it like no one else. Having been active in running, cycling and bodybuilding his whole life, he has first hand experience with sports injuries. He didn’t just learn about sports injuries in medical school, like many people out there claiming to be sports injury “experts”. In addition to treating himself for numerous sports injuries, he has treated amateur and professional athletes from nearly all sports.

Rotator Cuff tears in Gilbert AZ

A very common sports injury, with tears of the supraspinatus tendon being the most common. Dr. Brown will assess the severity of the tear with an MRI examination. Severe tears may need to be surgically repaired, but most tears respond well to conservative treatment and rehabilitation. Prolotherapy may also be helpful.

Shoulder impingement syndrome

Another very common shoulder problem, which can almost always be treated with a combination of Chiropractic / Acupuncture / Physical Medicine along with exercises. Rehabilitative exercises are mandatory to resolve this condition, however, it will not resolve without strengthening the shoulder rotator cuff muscles. This condition is very common in baseball pitchers, football quarterbacks, swimmers and any other athlete who repeatedly raises the arms overhead.

Muscle Imbalance in the Shoulder

Many muscular imbalances can occur in the shoulder due to the repetitive nature of many sports activities. One of the most common is the overdevelopment of the internal rotator muscles of the shoulder in contrast to the underdevelopment of the external rotator muscles of the shoulder. The internal rotator muscles are strengthened with chest and back exercises, whereas the external rotator muscles are rarely strengthened at all. This leads to muscular imbalance in the rotator cuff and tears in the rotator cuff muscles and tendons. This is easily avoided by specific exercises to strengthen external rotator muscles, namely, the infraspinatus, teres major and rear deltoid.

Patellar Tracking disorder

One of the most common causes of knee pain. Usually the result of a weakness in the inside muscle of the knee (vastus medialis). Chiropractic / Acupuncture / Physical Medicine to the knee will decrease the pain and inflammation while rehabilitative exercises strengthen the inside of the knee and resolve the problem. Custom-made foot orthotics are useful to stabilize the knee.

Shin Splints (Medial tibial stress syndrome)

A very common problem that many people think is very difficult to treat. However, when treated properly, it responds quickly. Chiropractic manipulation to the lower back, hips, and lower extremities along with muscle stimulation / Acupuncture / ice to the shins will stop the pain and inflammation quickly. Custom-made arch supports will stabilize the knee and ankle to prevent future occurrences.

Vertigo Gilbert, AZ,

Vertigo

Vertigo is the feeling that you are moving when you’re not. This sensation can be triggered by movements such as turning your head too quickly or looking down from a great distance, but it is ultimately caused by problems in the inner ear, brain, or brainstem. There are two different forms of vertigo with each stemming from various medical issues: peripheral vertigo and central vertigo.

Peripheral vertigo results in a problem with your inner ear and thus your balance, while central vertigo occurs when your brain or brainstem are suffering from a disease originating from your central nervous system (CNS). Peripheral vertigo is typically more severe, and central vertigo is more gradual in its onset. Regardless of the type of dizziness you are experiencing, more than likely, your quality of life is suffering because of it.

Whiplash Gilbert, AZ,

Whiplash

According to the American Chiropractic Association, one of the most common causes of neck pain is whiplash resulting from a car accident. A sudden forced movement of the head or neck in any direction and the resulting “rebound” in the opposite direction is known as whiplash. The sudden “whipping” motion injures the surrounding and supporting tissues of the neck and head. Muscles react by tightening and contracting, creating muscle fatigue, which can result in pain and stiffness. Severe whiplash can also be associated with injury to the intervertebral joints, discs, ligaments, muscles, and nerve roots.

Work Injuries Gilbert, AZ,

Work Injuries

Workplace injuries don’t only occur during traumatic slips and falls at work but are more often than not, the result of repetitive movements, and caused by doing the physical demands required of your job over an extended period of time. These types of workplace injuries are all too common in today’s workforce and are best identified by their symptoms.

Symptoms of a workplace injury can include:

  • Lower back pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Carpal tunnel and hand pain
  • Disc injuries
  • Sciatica (pain caused by the sciatic nerve in your lower back and legs)
  • Joint pain

Being examined by a chiropractor is often the first step in identifying and treating a workplace injury through non-invasive care which is why Brown Chiropractic & Acupuncture, PC conducts thorough examinations during his first session with new patients in order to better assess their injury. Since workplace injuries usually develop over time, it’s important to share all the symptoms you may be experiencing so we can identify the root cause.
